This last Labour Day weekend a group of about 12 friends and I, or soon to be friends from the Vancouver Kayak Club, headed north to the Thompson River. This same
weekend there is the
Lytton River Festival and it`s also the busiest day for the 3 local raft companies that run that section of river. We lucked out and managed to catch the river at the right flow for one of the "Frog" waves to work. The
Thompson River is a large volume roller coaster ride that for the most part is a fairly safe 3+ 4- at some levels. There are a few other good surf waves but none with eddy service like the Frog. The Thompson is one of my favorite runs just because of the shear power it has.
Until I run the Fraser it will
probably remain the largest volume River I've paddled, or would that be the Columbia?? Anyway,
here's some pics of the Thompson weekend.
